Former Abia state Governor, T.A Orji resigns from PDP
Former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orji, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His resignation was communicated in a letter to the PDP Chairman of Umuahia Ward 1 and made public on Saturday.
Orji, who governed Abia State from 2007 to 2015, first came into office under the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) before leaving the party in 2011 after a fallout with his predecessor, Orji Uzor Kalu. He later joined the PDP, completing his second term as governor on its platform and going on to represent Abia Central for two terms in the Senate.
His exit adds to the series of high-profile defections that have rocked the PDP in recent times. His son, former Speaker Chinedum Orji, had earlier defected to the APC, while his wife also left the PDP months ago.
In his resignation letter, Orji said the decision was made after “extensive consultations” with his family and associates, noting that he remains grateful for his experiences in the party.
