“Two Poor People Shouldn’t Marry in Nigeria” — Media Personality, Chioma Ahaghotu Warns Women

Media personality Chioma Ahaghotu has sparked debate online after stating that a poor Nigerian woman living in Nigeria has no business marrying a poor man.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Ahaghotu described the poor man + poor woman marriage as “a tragedy written in sweat and unpaid bills,” saying such unions often lead to endless suffering for women and children.

According to her, children in these homes grow up deprived of basic needs, while the woman bears the full weight of survival, hustling to support the family and still performing all domestic roles on an empty stomach.

“She’s the wife, mother, cleaner, chef, and therapist, all rolled into one,” Ahaghotu wrote, adding that many men in such marriages contribute little and accuse their wives of nagging when asked for help.

She concluded bluntly: “This is not our parents’ time. Two poor people marrying in 2025 is not romantic, it’s suffering.”
