I almost quit music and moved abroad after MoHits ended – Don Jazzy opens up
Nigerian producer and music executive, Don Jazzy, has opened up about how the sudden collapse of MoHits Records in 2012 nearly ended his music career.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Mavin Records boss revealed that the fallout with his former partner, D’banj, left him deeply discouraged and ready to relocate abroad.
“When MoHits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” Don Jazzy said.
The experience, he added, made him stronger and better prepared for future challenges.
From that setback, Don Jazzy went on to build Mavin Records into one of Africa’s most successful music labels, home to stars like Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Rema, Ayra Starr, Reekado Banks, and Johnny Drille.
In 2024, Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global, solidifying Don Jazzy’s legacy as one of Africa’s most influential music entrepreneurs.
