ASUU strike: FG directs vice-chancellors to stop lecturers’ salary

The Federal Government has directed vice-chancellors of all federal universities to enforce the “no work, no pay” policy against members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) currently on strike.

In a circular dated October 13, 2025, and signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the government reaffirmed its stance that any employee who fails to perform official duties during a strike will not be entitled to salaries.

The directive, issued in line with Nigeria’s Labour Laws, was also copied to the Head of Service, Budget Office DG, Pro-Chancellors, Accountant-General, and the NUC Executive Secretary.

ASUU members have been on strike over the government’s failure to meet their outstanding demands.
