Tinubu to Inaugurate Renovated National Arts Theatre on Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Wednesday commission the newly renovated National Arts Theatre as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.

The development was announced in a joint statement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Bankers’ Committee, and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso described the theatre as a symbol of the nation’s history, while Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted it would now serve as a global hub for conferences and performances.

Minister of Arts and Culture, Hannatu Musawa, hailed the project as “a gift to the nation and a source of pride,” stressing its role in preserving cultural heritage and expanding opportunities for the creative industry.

The Federal Executive Council had in 2021 approved ₦21.89 billion for the refurbishment of the iconic facility.
