ARISE TV has confirmed the death of one of its news anchors, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, on Monday, September 29, 2025.
Fondly called Sommie, the 29-year-old was described by colleagues as a vibrant broadcaster and supportive friend. She joined ARISE News as an engaging anchor and was also a trained lawyer.
In a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi, ARISE TV said: “Her voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”
The Nigeria Police has launched an investigation, though the FCT Command is yet to release details.
Maduagwu’s death has sparked grief across the media industry and renewed calls for stronger action against insecurity in the nation’s capital.
