My pastor told me not to accept acting jobs on Sundays – Actor Yemi Solade on why he stopped attending church for 10 years
Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has revealed why he has stayed away from church services for more than ten years, citing personal experiences that conflicted with his career and peace of mind.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Solade recalled a turning point in 2013 when a pastor at his former church instructed him not to accept acting jobs on Sundays. The directive made him uncomfortable, as it directly impacted his profession and livelihood.
“That work is what puts money in my pocket and allows me to give offerings,” Solade explained. “That was when I decided to stop attending regularly.”
He stressed that stepping back from church has not harmed his life; on the contrary, it has brought him peace and allowed him to focus more on his family and career without the pressures of church committees and programs.
Solade emphasized that his decision was not a rejection of faith but a conscious choice to avoid unnecessary pressures that could hinder personal growth and productivity.
