Police Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi Removed from Office
The Nigeria Police Force has relieved its long-serving spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, of his role as Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. SaharaReporters reports that his deputy will assume the position as Adejobi is redeployed to the Delta State Command.
Adejobi’s tenure, though notable for his visibility as the public face of the Force, was dogged by controversies ranging from allegations of shielding the police from accountability to personal scandals. Critics accused him of using his office to suppress dissent, act as a tool of political repression, and evade responsibility for misconduct.
Despite these issues, Adejobi was elevated to Assistant Commissioner of Police, a promotion that drew public criticism and petitions, including calls for his U.S. visa to be revoked over alleged abuses of power. He was also linked to multiple disputes, including cases filed against him by individuals who accused him of harassment and rights violations.
Amid the controversies, he reportedly relied on proxy media groups to issue statements on behalf of the Force. His name also surfaced in incidents such as the alleged theft of activist Omoyele Sowore’s glasses during a protest, further fueling public backlash.
