I built everything from scratch, didn’t inherit my father’s wealth – Aliko Dangote
Nigerian billionaire and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has clarified that his fortune was not inherited from his father but built entirely from scratch.
Speaking in a Bloomberg interview that resurfaced online on Tuesday, Dangote explained that although his father was “fairly wealthy” through business and politics, and counted among the richest men of his era, he made a conscious decision not to hold on to any inherited wealth.
He revealed that whatever assets he did receive from his father were instead donated to charity.
“One thing that I’m very, very proud of is that I did not inherit any money from my father. I built everything from scratch to get to where I am.
“Whatever I inherited from him, which means in assets, I gave that on to charity since then,” he explained.
