2027: Jonathan Cannot Unseat Tinubu – Lagos APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculations that former President Goodluck Jonathan could pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement on Friday, APC’s state spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said Jonathan’s political relevance in unseating Tinubu “remained in doubt,” despite his historic role in Nigeria’s 2015 democratic transition.

“Nigeria has since moved beyond the politics of sentiment, nostalgia, and symbolism. The challenges of today and the future require bold, capable, and forward-thinking leadership, not a return to the comfort of a past that was far from perfect. Let it be clear: good luck alone is not a governance strategy,” Oladejo said.

He argued that Jonathan’s administration (2010–2015) left behind widespread corruption, insecurity, and economic stagnation. Oladejo also raised concerns about constitutional and political complications, stressing that a comeback bid could trigger legal disputes and instability.

“His flirtation with the APC and absence from PDP’s rebuilding efforts raise questions about his loyalty, clarity of vision, and political intentions,” the statement added.

The spokesman emphasized that the APC is focused on consolidating progress, driving reforms, and presenting credible candidates that align with the aspirations of Nigeria’s youthful population.
