Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma approves minimum wage of N104,000
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved a new minimum wage of N104,000 for civil servants, up from N76,000, in response to current economic challenges. He announced the increment during a meeting with labour union leaders in Owerri, stressing the importance of maintaining a cordial relationship with organised labour.
Other wage adjustments include an increase for doctors from N215,000 to N503,000 and for tertiary institution teachers from N119,000 to N222,000. The governor noted that improved wages would boost productivity, strengthen families, and grow the local economy.
Uzodimma highlighted progress made under his administration, including raising Internally Generated Revenue from N400 million to over N3 billion monthly, increasing federal allocations to N14 billion, and reducing state debt from N280 billion to below N100 billion. He also recalled rebuilding collapsed infrastructure, tackling insecurity, and investing heavily in road projects.
While acknowledging the hardship caused by subsidy removal, he described it as a necessary reform and promised that its dividends would reach ordinary citizens. The governor further announced that the state would begin payment of N16 billion in gratuities owed to pensioners on August 27.
He also pointed to reforms in the health sector, the introduction of health insurance schemes, and participation in the Federal Government’s initiative to establish 1,000 businesses in every INEC ward.
Uzodimma urged labour unions to work closely with government to promote productivity, avoid unethical practices, and ensure sustained growth for Imo State.
