All of Nigeria showed up to honour Buhari, comfort us, and pray for him – Family expresses gratitude

The family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Nigerians for their overwhelming support before and after Buhari’s passing.

In a statement issued by Garba Shehu on Sunday, family elder Malam Mamman Daura said the love and sympathy shown from within and outside Nigeria gave them strength. He thanked Tinubu for declaring a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri in Buhari’s honour, and also appreciated Shettima for attending the burial and visiting the family in the UK.

The family extended their thanks to governors, traditional and religious leaders, politicians, business figures, civil society groups, and ordinary Nigerians who offered condolences. They described the national outpouring of love as both humbling and comforting, praying for blessings on all who stood with them during their time of grief.

“All of Nigeria showed up to honour Buhari, comfort us, and pray for him. We truly appreciate all the visits, messages, and prayers,” the statement said.

“Our thanks also go to leaders of other countries, including King Charles III, the UN Secretary-General, and ECOWAS leaders, for sending condolences and showing solidarity,” he said.

“Muhammadu Buhari’s demise is an irreparable loss and its pain is beyond words, but the general reaction and kind expressions give us the strength to cope with the loss of our esteemed family member and former leader of the country.

“We have been honoured by the large turnout of people from different religions, political parties, and backgrounds.Your kindness has truly moved us,” the statement read.
