Court finds Senator Natasha guilty of contempt, fines her N5m
The Federal High Court in Abuja has found suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, guilty of contempt of court.
Justice Binta Nyako, who delivered the ruling on Friday, stated that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan violated a previous court order by posting a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Facebook on April 7. The court ruled that her post mocked the gag order previously imposed on all parties involved in the case.
As a result, the court directed her to publish a formal apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page within seven days. Additionally, she was fined N5 million, with the court emphasizing that the contempt occurred during a civil proceeding.
While the contempt charge was initiated by Senator Akpabio, the court did not grant any specific relief in his favour.
The court also moved forward with delivering its judgment on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suit challenging her six-month suspension from the Senate.
