2027: It’s not going to be about your defections but your scorecards- PDP spokesman warns Tinubu

Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has issued a caution to the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress APC, stating that the 2027 elections will not be primarily about political defections.

Ologunagba emphasized that the 2027 elections will instead focus on “Tinubu’s scorecards and policies against Nigerians.”

Speaking on AIT Focus Nigeria, the PDP spokesman noted that Tinubu’s administration and the APC appear to celebrate recent defections.

He highlighted that there have been several instances of members defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party to the APC.Specifically, he mentioned that former PDP presidential running mate Ifeanyi Okowa, who was also the Governor of Delta State, had defected to the APC.

This move was reportedly followed by the defection of all Delta State National Assembly members of the PDP to the APC, in addition to several other lawmakers who have also left the PDP and LP for the APC.

However, Ologunagba asserted: “When you find the president of a country in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country like Nigeria declaring his preference for a one-party state, that shows that they continue to aggressively attack the processes of other political parties.”

He further stated that “Some of those defections are not passed on conviction; it’s based on coercion because of the stated policy and the intention of the president to say he wants a one-party state. That’s an illusion that is not going to happen.”

“It’s curious and strange that this government celebrated defections as if it’s the success of policies, someone is defecting then you find the whole statecraft bringing forward.

“You are not doing a scorecard about your policies but how many people have defected.

“APC should be warned, 2027 is not going to be about defections it’s going to be about your policies, your scorecards against the Nigerian people.”
