2027: Face the people, forget the sycophants- Suswam Advices Tinubu
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, expressed the Forum’s satisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s midterm performance, particularly concerning the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio echoed this support, stating, “If he has not done well, is it not we that will give him notice of impeachment?”
However, during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Suswam advised the President to disregard political praise singers.
Suswam remarked, “I don’t have any problem with a sitting president seeking re-election if things are going well.”
He cautioned, “But let’s not forget, the most difficult election to contest is one against the people, not political parties.”
Suswam cited the 2023 presidential election as an example, noting that Labour Party candidate Peter Obi garnered over five million votes despite lacking backing from governors or senators.
He added that in many areas, “he was believed to have won but was rigged out.”
Suswam’s counsel to the President was to “focus on Nigerians. Forget the sycophants and political parties. In many instances, even strong presidents were removed by their parties. But it is worse when you lose the people. So, face the people, they are the real force in any democracy.”
