Tinubu’s administration a second wave of slavery – ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), through its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Effiong Efa Nyong, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s federal government, asserting that its most notable accomplishment is the “conspicuous weaponization of poverty across all segments of society.
“The party’s statement describes Tinubu’s administration as having introduced an era of hardship for Nigerians, likening it to a “second wave of slavery” due to the weaponization of poverty.
Dr. Nyong, a former broadcast journalist, highlighted that this hardship is compounded by consistent tariff increases across nearly every sector, including electricity, transportation, communication, healthcare, and education.
The ADC condemned the government’s pervasive “multiple taxation of unimaginable proportions,” noting its normalization. The party traced the onset of this hardship to Tinubu’s first day in office, specifically citing the “abrupt announcement of the removal of the petroleum subsidy,” which they labeled a “reckless” action. This singular move, the opposition party stated, initiated a new period of hardship for Nigerians, particularly impacting the youth.
Nyong lamented that a decade of APC rule has subjected Nigerians to “terrible hardship without any comparable development.” He further accused the government of “state-sponsored intimidation, recklessness, harassment, sex scandals, judicial somersaults, and legislative compromises akin to George Orwell’s Animal Farm.
” The opposition party concluded that the APC has trivialized the nation’s severe condition, even resorting to coercing political figures to defect to their party.
What happened to the promises of good governance, economic growth, and national unity? Two years into the reign of the ‘messiah,’ our economy lies in shambles, the family unit is disintegrating, ritual killings are on the rise, and repentant terrorists now help massacre our sons and daughters, both on the battlefield and at home. One thing, however, the government does consistently: it lies. Propaganda, wrapped in boldness.”
