”I need help to get back on my feet” – Yemi Ayebo calls for help in Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has publicly appealed for assistance to revive his career. In a recent interview with Mr. LilGaga on YouTube, Ayebo discussed the challenges he has faced since the release of his 1993 film Yemi My Lover, which gained popularity in the Yoruba-speaking regions of Nigeria. Despite the film’s success, he revealed that piracy significantly impacted his earnings, with approximately 90% of the revenue lost to illegal distribution.

Ayebo explained that the lack of social media at the time hindered effective promotion of the film, leading to widespread unauthorized copies and a subsequent “war” from marketers who opposed his independent marketing efforts. This situation marked the beginning of his financial struggles. He emphasized that the industry’s reliance on personal connections has made it difficult for him to secure acting opportunities, leaving him in a precarious position.

In his appeal, Ayebo called on his colleagues and industry stakeholders to support him in regaining his footing, highlighting the importance of collaboration and mentorship in overcoming the challenges faced by veteran actors. He expressed a desire to continue contributing to the industry that once celebrated his talents.
