FG witness reveals how Nnamdi Kanu was arrested with woman in Lagos hotel
The Federal Government on Tuesday began presenting its case against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), detailing his 2015 arrest and alleged use of illegal broadcasting equipment.
At the Federal High Court in Abuja, a Department of State Services (DSS) officer identified as “AAA” testified behind a screen, stating that Kanu was arrested on October 14, 2015, at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Lagos, where he was found with a woman and radio equipment allegedly used for operating Radio Biafra. Kanu reportedly resisted arrest and later admitted to founding and running the station without a licence, claiming he would not have been granted one anyway.
He described himself as a freedom fighter advocating for self-determination for people in the South-East, South-South, and Middle Belt regions. The court also played a recorded DSS interrogation where Kanu confirmed Radio Biafra’s operations were based abroad.
Meanwhile, a request from the defence team, led by Kanu Agabi (SAN), to include 22 lawyers was denied, with the court maintaining the previously approved limit of 13.
