Poverty is not a crime, it can be a virtue of God – Senate President Godswill Akpabio tells Nigerians

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the life and legacy of Pope Francis, describing him as a symbol of humility and selflessness whose values align with Nigeria’s present socioeconomic challenges.

Speaking from The Vatican during a broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Akpabio, who represented the Nigerian government at the Pope’s funeral, encouraged Nigerians to view poverty not as a sign of failure or shame, but as a possible reflection of spiritual depth.

“Poverty is not a crime, and sometimes, it can be a virtue of God,” he stated.
