Ibadan Stampede: High Court grants Queen Naomi, others bail

Justice K.B. Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to Olori Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi. Hamzat, founder of Agidigbo FM, and Fasasi, principal of Islamic High School in Ibadan, are linked to a stampede at a children’s funfair organized by Naomi’s Wings Foundation, where 35 children tragically lost their lives.

The bail conditions include a N10 million bond, two sureties with landed property, the surrender of international passports, and a restriction on media interviews during the case.

Initially, the trio was remanded on December 24, 2024, following an order by Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi. They face a four-count charge of conspiracy, negligence, and acts causing harm. On January 10, the Oyo State government filed an additional 18-count charge against them, including conspiracy to commit murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence, under the Oyo State Criminal Code.
