COVID-19: Presidency scolds Senate over demands for Buhari to Address Nigerians
The Presidency has rebuked the Senate for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to address Nigerians in a television broadcast with regards to the Coronavirus.
At plenary on Wednesday, the Senate had asked President Buhari to address the country on the measures taken to address the COVID-19 crisis.
Reacting to the call, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement that such calls are ‘populist advocacies’ which are unnecessary at this time,saying the senate’s call was cheap and sensational.
According to Mr Shehu, Nigeria, like every other country around the world, is dealing with the unexpected and unprecedented impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Muhammadu Buhari administration has taken some steps to mitigate the effects on the Nigerian people.
He said that the Federal Government does not want to create panic, adding that the government will continue to update the Nigerian public with relevant information.
The presidential Spokesman pleaded with every Nigerian to cooperate with the government in the fight against COVID-19 and obey all instructions from the NCDC.
