How do you come up with such outrageous bills? – Iyabo Ojo asks Lagos State Government after giving her 7 days to pay N18m tax or risk jail
The Lagos State Government has issued a seven-day ultimatum to popular Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, to pay a sum of N18,640,092.00 as her personal income tax or face the risk of imprisonment.
In a letter addressed to the actress, the Lagos government accused her of owing N7,376,000.00 as tax for the year 2022 and an additional N11,264,092 in outstanding taxes from the 2021 tax year.
In response to the letter, Iyabo Ojo criticized the method used to calculate what she deemed an exorbitant tax bill.
Taking to her Instagram page, she shared a picture of the bill and expressed her concerns, saying: “@jidesanwoolu @lagosstategovt, please, how do you come up with these outrageous personal income taxes that you send on a daily basis? After already paying various taxes for my businesses, house, and everything else… you still present me with this huge amount and give me only seven days to pay. Lol.
“The last time, you asked me to come to your office, and I did. You requested that I explain and declare my earnings, which I did with the assistance of my tax consultant. However, you did not respond to my letter, instead, you want me to pay an exorbitant amount that I don’t possess. Should I resort to stealing? I ask again, ‘How do you come up with such outrageous bills?’
“What have you, as a government, ever done for me? NOTHING. Since you insist, you are welcome to come and shut down my business, arrest me, imprison me, or even kill me, for all I care. We will all die one day.”
that is too bad for you……
