“Umunna and Umuada make unnecessary demands from the bereaved” – Catholic Bishop laments high cost of burials in the East
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev (Dr) Paulinus Ezeokafor, has lamented the high cost of burial in some parts of Igboland. He said the Umunna and Umuada make so many unnecessary demands from the bereaved
He disclosed this speaking with a journalist and life coach, Timothy Ofoegbu
In the statement posted by Ofoegbu on Thursday, February 11, the Bishop said he is not happy about the issue.
“A CATHOLIC BISHOP IS UNHAPPY. His Lordship, Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, is unhappy about a particular issue in Igboland. He voiced it out in a very emotional voice…
“The cost of burial in some parts of Igboland is very costly and people waste so much resources in burials. The Umunna, Umuada and the Iyom-ndi make so many unnecessary demands from the bereaved. So when someone dies in a family now, the family members are not only crying because of their loved one that died but they are also grieving because of the huge amount of money that they will spend in burying the dead. I am very unhappy about this unfortunate phenomenon.”
that is true but it’s there culture and you can’t change that….
It’s a bad culture which must be eradicated, Igbo people should talk to themselves and change the attitude.
You need to do Simon for them in order to let them change the habit, this is uncalled for and outrageous.
