2027: Pro-Tinubu Igbo Group dismisses Obi–Kwankwaso alliance as non-threat

The NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI–ABAT), a coalition of pro-Tinubu Igbo groups, has downplayed the significance of a rumored joint presidential ticket between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. In a statement released in Abuja, the group described the potential alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as neither “formidable nor feasible.”

National Coordinator Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary General Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr. asserted that such a partnership would fail to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. The forum characterized the discussions as political speculation, stating, “The rumoured partnership would not pose a significant challenge to the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The group further alleged that the Obi–Kwankwaso talks are being influenced by a former president, though they offered no verifiable evidence for this claim. They pointed to Peter Obi’s recent high-profile visit to Kano as a signal of alignment but argued that these gestures do not translate into a “viable electoral force” capable of shifting the national landscape.

Internal friction within the opposition was also cited as a major barrier to any successful coalition. NDI–ABAT specifically noted the “continued political relevance and ambitions” of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a factor that could hinder a unified opposition front. They suggested that competing interests among top figures would likely fragment any attempt at a singular challenge.

Expressing confidence in the South-East’s support for the current administration, the group highlighted ongoing mobilization efforts led by key figures. They specifically credited the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for “strengthening political backing” within the region and ensuring that the President retains a solid foundation of support heading into the next cycle.

NDI–ABAT concluded that emerging opposition alignments are unlikely to reshape the political environment in any meaningful way. They maintained that the current administration’s momentum remains strong, regardless of potential tickets involving Obi or Kwankwaso. However, political observers noted that these permutations remain fluid as party platforms continue to evolve.
