Governor Oborevwori’s aide slumps and dies
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed profound grief following the sudden death of his Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Sunday Kotor. The long-serving official reportedly collapsed during a private event on Friday evening, March 20, 2026. Despite being rushed to a nearby medical facility, he could not be revived and was tragically confirmed dead shortly after.
In a tribute released through his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori lauded the late aide’s unwavering commitment to his duties. The Governor noted that the loss is felt deeply across the entire state administration, stating, “Late Sunday Kotor was wholly dedicated to his job. His passing is a huge loss, not only to his family but to the government and people of Delta State.”
Kotor was a seasoned professional and a familiar face within the Government House in Asaba, having built a distinguished career in protocol and event coordination. A graduate of Mass Communication from Delta State University, Abraka, he hailed from Okwagbe in Ughelli South Local Government Area. His expertise made him a staple at high-profile state functions for over a decade.
His service spanned multiple administrations, where he earned a reputation as a versatile Master of Ceremonies under former governors Emmanuel Uduaghan and Ifeanyi Okowa. This continuity of service made him a mentor to many within the state’s media and protocol units. His colleagues have described his sudden departure as a devastating blow to the professional standards of the Government House.
The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, particularly to the deceased’s younger brother, Conference Kotor, who is also a member of the current administration. Oborevwori emphasized that the state has lost a vibrant public servant whose contributions were vital to the seamless execution of government activities.
The news has triggered an outpouring of emotional tributes from associates who remembered Kotor for his energy and professionalism. As the government and people of Delta State mourn, his legacy remains tied to the many state events he meticulously coordinated. Oborevwori concluded his tribute by noting that Kotor’s presence and dedication to Delta State will be greatly missed.
