Real reason Tinubu embarked on state visit to UK – Daniel Bwala

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Media and Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has clarified the objectives behind the President’s recent two-day state visit to the United Kingdom. This diplomatic mission included high-level engagements with King Charles III, showcasing a significant display of soft power and international cooperation.

The visit sparked a wave of criticism from opposition figures who argued that the trip was unnecessary given Nigeria’s pressing domestic challenges. Critics questioned the timing and the tangible benefits of such a move, leading to a heated public debate regarding the administration’s priorities.

Responding via Facebook on Friday, Bwala dismissed the notion that the President should remain stationary during times of crisis. He emphasized that global engagement is a requirement for national growth, stating, “Some people are saying, ‘Why go to the UK?’ Look, I hope you all know that you don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting.”

Bwala highlighted that the primary focus of the trip is to attract foreign capital and create employment for Nigerians. He noted, “This visit is about opening doors: more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for our people. His Majesty, King Charles has shown practicable commitment to partner with Nigeria on areas of mutual trust.”

Beyond economics, the Special Adviser argued that the visit strengthens Nigeria’s geopolitical standing and ensures the nation remains a key player in global affairs. He maintained, “President Tinubu is making sure Nigeria is seen, heard, and respected on the world stage.”

Bwala concluded his defense by reiterating that proactive diplomacy is the only way to ensure the country’s progress. He firmly stated, “That’s how you move a country forward, not by staying quiet,” signaling the administration’s intent to continue its international outreach.
