Nigeria’s Security Is Not One Man’s Responsibility; All Of Us Are In It – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to carry the values of Ramadan—discipline, compassion, and unity—into their daily lives, emphasizing that national security is a collective duty. Speaking at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos on Friday, March 20, 2026, the President remarked that the end of the holy month should not signal an end to the sacrifices made for the nation’s progress.

The President, who arrived in Lagos early Friday following a historic state visit to the United Kingdom, joined hundreds of worshippers for the Eid-el-Fitr prayers. He noted, “We thank Almighty God for guiding us through Ramadan. But the lessons and sacrifices must not end with the month. The spirit of giving, peace and love for one another must continue.”

A major theme of his address was the shared responsibility of maintaining peace and stability. Tinubu warned that the government cannot secure the country alone, stating, “The stability and security of this nation is not the responsibility of one man alone. We are all involved. We must be ready to provide information — sensitive information — about suspicious movements and activities across the country.”

Emphasizing Nigeria’s diversity as its greatest strength, the President called for a deeper commitment to peaceful coexistence across religious and ethnic lines. He reminded the audience that “our diversity is our strength. We must accept one another as brothers and sisters. Whether through Islam or Christianity, we all serve one God. Let us reflect this in how we treat one another.”

Tinubu also urged citizens to be law-abiding and to look out for the most vulnerable members of society. He reflected on the principles of “giving, peace, security, and love of our nation,” noting that these ideals should serve as the foundation for building a more prosperous and harmonious Nigeria beyond the festive period.

As the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations conclude, the President is expected to host various stakeholders and community leaders in Lagos. He concluded his message by praying for God to accept the sacrifices of the season and guide the nation toward lasting peace. “May God accept our sacrifices,” he added, while calling for continued patriotism from all Nigerians.
