2027: I’m not sure of getting ADC presidential ticket – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has admitted to uncertainty regarding his future within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a recent video message to his followers, Obi addressed growing speculation about his 2027 ambitions, clarifying that his path to the party’s presidential ticket is not yet a certainty.

“Someone asked me how I know for sure that the ADC will give me the presidential ticket. I cannot be certain,” Obi stated. He emphasized that his current focus is on a broader political “project” rather than personal guarantees. He also shared his concerns about the stability of political partnerships, asking, “How can we be certain that the people we’re working with right now won’t leave us behind tomorrow?”

Despite these doubts, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the opposition cause and praised the resilience of his “Obidient” supporters. He thanked those who have remained loyal despite the lack of immediate political rewards, acknowledging that being in the opposition in Nigeria is a difficult task requiring immense personal sacrifice.

The video follows Obi’s high-profile defection from the Labour Party to the ADC in late 2025, a move that reshaped the South-East political landscape. However, his entry has not been without friction, as internal party factions have reportedly challenged the legality of his registration.

As the 2027 election cycle begins to heat up, Obi’s candid admission highlights the fluid and often volatile nature of Nigerian coalition politics. While he remains a central figure in the opposition, his latest remarks suggest a cautious approach toward the alliances being built for the next general election.

The former governor concluded by urging his supporters to remain focused on the goal of national reform. “What matters is that we are committed to a cause,” he noted, signaling that while the platform may be uncertain, his intention to participate in the 2027 race remains firm.
