“Structures of Criminality” – Reno Omokri Slams Peter Obi’s Visit to Malami

Reno Omokri has launched a biting critique of Peter Obi following the Labour Party leader’s solidarity visit to former Attorney General Abubakar Malami. Omokri questioned the sincerity of Obi’s anti-corruption stance, noting that the former governor appears to be aligning with individuals he once publicly distanced himself from during the 2023 campaign.
Omokri highlighted the stark contrast between Obi’s “structures of criminality” rhetoric and his recent actions. He remarked on X, “Look at the quality of people Peter Obi is relating with. Alleged looters and barons of corruption,” adding, “And this is the same Peter Obi who said he would not be part of any ‘structures of criminality’?”

The critique centered heavily on Malami’s ongoing legal battles, including the court-ordered interim forfeiture of 57 assets valued at approximately ₦212 billion. Omokri pointed out the irony of such wealth being linked to a public official in a country with millions of “homeless, hungry, and desolate” citizens, asking, “These are the types of characters Peter Obi wants to save Nigeria with?”

Omokri also revisited Obi’s frequent campaign stops at religious centers, suggesting his previous appeals to the clergy now take on a different meaning. “During the run-up to the last election, Peter Obi was jumping from church to church, shouting, ‘Church, wake up and take back your country’,” he wrote, adding that Nigerians now understand the true intent behind the slogan.

Taking the attack further, Omokri alleged that Obi’s political roots under the late General Sani Abacha influence his current associations. He claimed that “Obi learnt a lot under Abacha, his beloved boss,” and suggested that the visit to Malami was a nod to an era where “looting was official state policy.”
The former presidential aide concluded with a sharp comparison to a notorious Nigerian criminal. “If the notorious armed robber Anini were alive today, perhaps Peter Obi would have paid him a solidarity visit too,” Omokri said. He maintained that Obi’s recent conduct reveals a preference for political expediency over his promised “new Nigeria.”
