Shehu Sani links surge in terrorist attacks to 2027 election

Former Senator Shehu Sani has drawn a direct connection between the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Northern Nigeria and the approaching 2027 general elections. In a statement shared via his X handle, Sani observed that the decade-long security crisis historically intensifies as the country moves closer to major political transitions.

The former lawmaker expressed deep concern over the timing of the violence, particularly the suicide bombings in Borno State during the holy month of Ramadan. He noted, “Each time the election season is upon us, bandits and terrorists in the North heighten their attacks. Whatever their motive or intention for this calculated upsurge, it’s condemnable.”

Sani highlighted the hypocrisy of the assailants, who claim to fight for a religious cause while targeting fellow Muslims during a sacred period.

He questioned the logic of the attackers, stating, “They kidnap and murder their fellow Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan and claim to be fighting a religious cause. Our Clerics must muster the courage to rebuke these evil forces.

The activist’s remarks follow a series of devastating explosions in Maiduguri that resulted in dozens of casualties. Sani’s analysis suggests that the violence may be a strategic tool used by “evil forces” to create instability or influence the political atmosphere as alliances begin to form for the 2027 polls.
