The Best Decision I Ever Made: Kingsley Moghalu Reflects on Quitting Politics

Former presidential aspirant Kingsley Moghalu has declared that walking away from Nigerian politics was the single best choice of his life.

Writing on his verified X handle, the former Central Bank Deputy Governor cited personal fulfillment and deep disillusionment with the nation’s political system.

Moghalu famously resigned from a prestigious academic position in 2018 to pursue a presidential bid during the 2019 general elections.

After a second attempt in 2023, he withdrew from the race, citing betrayal by political operatives within his chosen alternative platform.

“I decided it wasn’t worth the bother for someone who does not need the Nigerian ‘system’ to feed, and whose contributions are demanded and appreciated well elsewhere,” he wrote.

He highlighted the heavy toll of his involvement, noting that he sacrificed his time, health, family resources, and hard-earned income.

“So I ended my brief foray into politics and returned to international professional life. Best decision I ever made. Life since has been quiet, happy, and fulfilling,” he concluded.
