Support Tinubu, Nnamdi Kanu will be freed – Cubana Chief Priest
Socialite and entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest has urged the South-East to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that political alignment with the President could secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained IPOB leader. He stated this while reacting to a video of the Igwe of Ezema Olo, Dr. Lawrence Agubuzo, appealing to Tinubu in Abuja.
In the video, the Igwe appealed directly to the President, urging him to “hear our cry” regarding the release of the detained leader. Cubana Chief Priest shared the video via his social media handle with a message supporting the monarch’s intervention.
He wrote: “The message is very clear. God bless Your Royal Highness for partaking in Nigeria’s future. If His Highness had not gone to Abuja, how would Asiwaju have received this message?” Chief Priest stressed the importance of political alignment, urging the South-East to support President Tinubu, arguing that it could lead to favorable outcomes for the region.
He said: “We cannot fight the government. If Asiwaju frees MNK, the Igwe has already paved the way. Let’s get along with Nigeria. Tinubu won the last election without the South-East.” He believes that a unified political stance is the most pragmatic way to achieve regional goals.
“He will win again, so why not give him our votes so he can do what we ask in return? Hopefully, he will hand over power to an Igbo man,” he added. He emphasized that the region should reconsider its oppositional stance to avoid being sidelined in national politics.
He also highlighted Tinubu’s political influence, noting: “He has the best political structure in the country to win elections. The Igbo’s best stake is on Asiwaju. let’s think it through and not waste our votes.” The socialite argued that active participation within the ruling party is more effective than external pressure.
The appeal comes amid a shift in the entrepreneur’s stance, as he had previously warned in November 2025 that the President would struggle for votes in the region if Kanu remained in custody. He now maintains that the “best stake” for the South-East lies in strategic alignment with the current administration.
