Abia police arrest woman for stabbing her immigration husband to death over alleged infidelity
The Abia State Police Command has arrested a woman for the murder of her husband, an Immigration officer, following allegations of infidelity. The officer, identified as Chidiebere James, was reportedly stabbed to death during a domestic dispute in Umuihi, Umuahia North Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026. The conflict between the couple allegedly began on Sunday with a heated argument regarding their sick child’s medical treatment and the husband’s supposed inability to provide the necessary funds.
According to reports, the dispute intensified after the wife allegedly discovered incriminating text messages on her husband’s mobile phone. This discovery led to accusations of infidelity, which preceded the physical altercation that resulted in the officer’s death.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday. “The suspect was promptly arrested and is being interrogated at the State CID for a case of murder,” the CP stated regarding the ongoing investigation.
A close family member confirmed that the officer’s body has since been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia. The traditional ruler of the Ekeoba Ancient Kingdom, HRH Iheanyi Nwokenna, also acknowledged the incident, noting he had just been informed of the tragedy.
The community of Umuihi Umuogba has been thrown into deep mourning following the shocking development. Residents have expressed significant concern over the rising trend of domestic violence and aggressive behavior within households across the country.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to uncover the full details of the encounter. The command is expected to provide further updates as the interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department progresses.
