“These are the same selfish elites shouting ‘city boy’ up and down, by gaslighting Nigerians that a failed government deserves another chance” -Lawyer Slams Obi Cubana for Moving Family to UK While Backing Tinubu
Lawyer Chukwudi Iwuchukwu has alleged that nightlife entrepreneur Obi Cubana relocated his family to the United Kingdom three years ago. The lawyer claims the move suggests the businessman no longer believes in Nigeria’s future, despite his public political stances.
Iwuchukwu made the claims on his Facebook page this Thursday, specifically targeting Obi Cubana and his associate, Cubana Chief Priest. He noted that while both men are major players in the Nigerian economy, they have chosen to secure their families’ futures abroad.
The allegations come as both entrepreneurs have openly joined the ‘City Boy Movement,’ a group advocating for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election. Iwuchukwu criticized this alignment, describing it as a contradiction between their personal choices and their public endorsements.
According to the lawyer, the businessmen view Nigeria as “irredeemable” and essentially use the country only as a source of revenue. He alleged that they repatriate their earnings to support their families living in what he termed “sane countries.”
Directly criticizing their political involvement, Iwuchukwu wrote, “Obi Cubana relocated his family to the UK three years ago. To him, Nigeria is irredeemable and a carcass, this is why he uprooted his family from here and then sent them away to UK.”
He further attacked the ‘City Boy’ slogan, accusing the socialites of gaslighting the Nigerian public into supporting an administration they personally avoid. “These are the same selfish elites shouting ‘city boy’ up and down, by gaslighting Nigerians that a failed government deserves another chance,” he added.
While acknowledging their constitutional right to support any candidate, Iwuchukwu called on Nigerian youths to take a stand. He urged them to “vote with their wallet” by boycotting businesses linked to the socialites, stating, “It is also your right as a young person living in Nigeria to boycott their business.”
