Nnamdi Kanu Bars Visitors from Publicizing Discussions; Denies Charging for Visits
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a strict warning to those visiting him at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, forbidding them from making public broadcasts of their private discussions.
This directive was conveyed through his lawyer, Nnemeka Ejiofor, in a video update shared on Monday, January 26, 2026. Kanu, who is currently serving a life sentence following his November 2025 conviction on terrorism charges, expressed frustration over the unauthorized sharing of his private conversations.
“From now henceforth, anybody who comes to see Nnamdi Kanu is forbidden from making public broadcast or discuss as to the outcome of their meeting,” Ejiofor stated. He clarified that any intended messages for the public would only be released through Kanu’s legal team or the IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful.
The IPOB leader also addressed rumors regarding access to him, stating categorically that he does not collect money from visitors. He emphasized that visiting him is not a “money-making venture” and urged individuals to avoid paying anyone for access.
To visit Kanu at the Sokoto facility, the lawyer outlined the following established protocol:
• Provide a valid means of identification.
• Bring recent passport photographs.
• Complete the required official screening forms at the correctional centre.
• Await final approval from Kanu himself.
The transfer of Kanu to Sokoto remains a point of contention for his supporters, following a Federal High Court’s refusal in December 2025 to move him back to a facility in Abuja.
