Data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that electricity generation dropped to zero megawatts (0MW) on Friday, January 23, while load allocation to the country’s 11 distribution companies also fell to zero as of 1:00pm.
DisCos affected include Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja and Yola, all recording zero power allocation at the time of the collapse.
Nigeria’s grid experienced multiple collapses in 2025, with the last recorded incident happening on December 29.
