AFCON2025: I will pay Eagles bonuses if FG fails – Ndidi
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has pledged to personally settle unpaid match bonuses for players and officials at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations if the Federal Government fails to make the payments before Saturday.
Ndidi made the commitment ahead of Nigeria’s quarter-final clash against Algeria in Morocco, saying he does not want the bonus issue to disrupt the team’s focus and preparations.
The pledge came amid reports of unrest in the Super Eagles’ camp over unpaid bonuses from the group stage and Round of 16 matches. However, the Federal Government, through the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has assured that payments are being fast-tracked and will be completed between Thursday and Friday.
According to updates from the minister, group-stage bonuses have already been released and cleared regulatory processes, with remaining payments expected to reflect in players’ accounts shortly.
Nigeria arrived in Marrakech on Thursday and have continued training ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final, as the Super Eagles chase a fourth AFCON title after previous wins in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
