Five feared de@d as b@ndits attack National Park in Oyo

Tragedy struck in Oyo State on Tuesday night, January 6, as suspected bandits launched a violent assault on the National Park Service (NPS) facility in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area. The attack has left five persons feared dead and several others injured, sending shockwaves through the local community and the security apparatus.

The assailants reportedly stormed the facility at approximately 9:00 PM, catching the personnel completely unawares. In the chaos that followed, multiple officers were caught in the crossfire, leading to a scramble for safety as the gunmen targeted those stationed at the park.

Confirming the grim details of the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, noted that the perpetrators were “yet to be identified men.” The swiftness and brutality of the raid have prompted an immediate high-level response from the state’s top security officials.

In light of the violence, the Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs were dispatched to the location on Wednesday morning. Their presence aims to assess the damage and provide leadership to the local teams currently managing the aftermath of the deadly encounter.

To ensure the safety of the surrounding area, CP Femi Haruna has ordered the immediate deployment of several specialized units. These include tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The primary objective of this massive deployment is to “prevent further breakdown of law and order” in the affected region. Residents of Orire Local Government Area remain on edge as security forces comb the vicinity for the attackers and work to secure the facility.
