“I Helped Him Win” — Orji Kalu Claims Otti’s 2023 Victory Was Not Accidental
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has claimed that Governor Alex Otti would not have emerged winner of the 2023 Abia State governorship election without his intervention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media office and signed by George Maduka, Kalu said his political structure remains strong and fully committed to delivering the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The senator dismissed suggestions that APC needs Governor Otti to win elections in the state, insisting the party is united and solid in Abia. He also challenged Otti to deny that he personally visited his residence in Igbere late at night on the eve of the 2023 election.
According to the statement, key figures involved in the Labour Party’s 2023 campaign in Abia, including its former state coordinator, Chief Umeh Kalu, held discussions with Senator Kalu over the governorship race. The statement questioned why such meetings took place if Kalu was truly politically irrelevant.
The claims come amid rising political tension following Governor Otti’s open support for the Labour Party’s Abia North candidate, aimed at unseating Senator Kalu in the 2027 elections. Otti had earlier vowed that the Labour Party would defeat Kalu in the next election cycle.
