AFCON 2025: Finishing as top scorer not my priority, I’m just thinking about the team – Ademola Lookman
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has made it clear that personal awards are not his priority at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after Nigeria’s dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique, Lookman said his focus is firmly on helping the Super Eagles progress in the tournament rather than finishing as the competition’s top scorer.
Lookman was one of Nigeria’s standout performers in the Round of 16 clash, scoring a goal and providing assists for Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams as the Super Eagles booked their place in the quarter-finals.
The Atalanta star has now scored three goals at AFCON 2025, matching his total from the 2023 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire. Despite his impressive form, Lookman dismissed suggestions that he is chasing the Golden Boot.
“No,” he said. “Personally, I’m just thinking about the team. Now we are in the quarter-finals, and our next opponent will be another strong team. We scored four goals, another big performance for the team, and that’s what matters to me.”
