Tinubu Confers MFR National Honour on William Troost-Ekong
President Bola Tinubu has awarded the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) to former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong.
Troost-Ekong confirmed the honour on Tuesday after receiving his official certificate, which followed the announcement made the previous night. He expressed gratitude to the President, describing the recognition as a proud moment for himself and his family.
“I am honoured and grateful to His Excellency… for conferring on me the MFR national honour,” he wrote, adding that Nigeria gave him his identity, purpose, and the platform to fulfil his football dreams.
The 32-year-old defender said wearing the green and white of the Super Eagles has always been a privilege and a responsibility to give his best for the country. He also wished the team success as they begin their Africa Cup of Nations campaign, pledging his continued support.
In the citation attached to the certificate, President Tinubu said the honour was awarded in recognition of Troost-Ekong’s outstanding virtues and service to Nigeria.
