Osun Government Confirms Banditry Attack, Abduction On Ora Igbomina Border Community, Says Military Operation Underway
In a sobering update for residents of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has confirmed a serious security breach in the border community of Ora Igbomina. The town was thrown into chaos Monday evening when gunmen ambushed a retired customs officer at his home and tragically shot a farmer dead during their escape. In response to this distressing event, the Governor convened an emergency State Security Council meeting on Thursday, expressing his deep sympathies to the victims’ families while characterizing the incident as a major setback to the state’s recent pre-emptive security measures.
For the past three days, a massive military-backed rescue and protection operation has been scouring the area. This delicate mission involves a coordinated effort between the Nigerian Army, the Police, and the DSS, all working tirelessly to secure the release of the kidnapped officer and track down the assailants. Governor Adeleke emphasized that while the operation is intensive, security forces are proceeding with caution to ensure the safety of the captives. He reassured the public that the state is committed to flushing out these elements and preventing any further spillover of banditry from neighboring regions.
To bolster long-term safety, the state government is rolling out an upgraded security architecture that includes the deployment of refurbished armored tanks and the procurement of new patrol vehicles. A significant shift in strategy was also announced regarding the Osun Amotekun Corps; the Governor has issued new operational guidelines that mandate strict coordination with the Nigeria Police. By ending “silo” operations and fostering a unified front among paramilitary and federal agencies, the administration aims to create a more formidable shield for communities particularly vulnerable to cross-border incursions.
As we move deeper into the festive season, the Governor is also calling on all citizens to play their part in maintaining a safe environment. He urged residents to be extra vigilant and, where possible, limit late-night gatherings and activities, as criminals often exploit the cover of darkness during the yuletide period. While the government continues its “delicate” mission in Ora Igbomina, the message remains clear: safety is a collective responsibility, and the state will not rest until peace is fully restored to every corner of Osun
