I took this decision as my return of favour – Fubara on why he joined APC

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has explained that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) was to reciprocate President Bola Tinubu’s role in restoring stability to the state.

Fubara said aligning Rivers State with the Federal Government was necessary to strengthen cooperation with the centre. He made this known during his formal reception by the APC at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he completed his membership registration and received his party card.

The APC delegation was led by the state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and included the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.

According to the governor, his defection is part of efforts to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
“I took this decision as my return of favour… to ensure that his re-election in 2027 will be easy and smooth in this state,” Fubara said, adding that being in the same party makes fulfilling that goal easier.

Fubara also pledged to strengthen the APC in Rivers State, assuring party leaders that he would take responsibility for sustaining the party’s structure and activities.

He added that the task ahead includes mobilising support for the President, addressing political resistance, and ensuring a decisive victory for Tinubu in the state.
