FCT will continue to build more houses for judges — Minister, Wike

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to supporting the judiciary to enhance productivity, reduce delays, and protect its independence and integrity.

Speaking on Monday, December 8, at the opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, Wike disclosed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has made budgetary provisions to build more residential houses for FCT High Court judges to address housing shortages.

He said the Tinubu-led administration has also handed over the Certificate of Occupancy for the Supreme Court’s land and commenced full perimeter fencing of the complex to improve security and prevent encroachment.

According to Wike, these interventions have restored confidence across the judiciary and created a more conducive environment for the administration of justice.

The minister listed other ongoing projects to include residences for Heads of Courts, a new Magistrate Court Complex in Jabi, staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School, and new Court of Appeal and Federal High Court complexes in Abuja.

He stressed that providing secure and comfortable accommodation for judges allows them to focus fully on delivering justice without distractions.

Reiterating continued reforms, Wike said the FCTA will push for the completion of judicial housing projects, the Jabi Magistrate Court Complex, and the digitisation of court processes and registries.

He concluded that justice must never be compromised, describing it as the foundation of democracy and public trust.
