Terrorists think Nigeria is so rich – Minister of Defence nominee, General Christopher Musa
Minister of Defence nominee, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has revealed why Nigeria remains a major target for terrorist groups, saying they view the country as extremely wealthy and strategically important.
Speaking during his screening at the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, the former Chief of Defence Staff said terrorists, regardless of where they operate, ultimately aim to gain access into Nigeria because of its perceived economic strength. He stressed the urgent need for stronger border security to curb the growing threat.
The Senate screening, held at the National Assembly, followed his nomination by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday. If confirmed, General Musa will replace Mohammed Badaru, who recently resigned from the position.
General Musa reaffirmed the need for improved security coordination and border control as part of a broader strategy to combat terrorism in the country.
He said: “The terrorists that we’re dealing with think Nigeria is so rich that when they come to Nigeria, they can make it.
“So, anything they are doing anywhere, their target end is to come into Nigeria, and that’s why it’s important that we must make sure that we secure our borders and deny them entry.
“And then those ones that are within we’re able to take them out. There will be zero policy on anything terrorism.”
