We are in this fight together – Tinubu Declares Nationwide Security Emergency, Orders Massive Police and Military Recruitment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency, directing the Nigerian Police and Armed Forces to immediately recruit more personnel to combat rising insecurity.

In a statement from the State House, Tinubu authorised the police to recruit an additional 20,000 officers, raising the total planned intake to 50,000. He also approved the use of NYSC camps as temporary training centres and ordered officers withdrawn from VIP duties to undergo crash retraining for deployment to high-risk areas.

“In view of the emerging security situation, I have decided to declare a nationwide security emergency and order additional recruitment into the Armed Forces,” Tinubu said.

“This is a national emergency, and we are responding by deploying more boots on the ground.”

The president also empowered the DSS to deploy trained forest guards and recruit more personnel to flush out terrorists and bandits operating in forest regions.

Tinubu praised the rescue of abducted victims in Kebbi and Kwara States and honoured fallen soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba. He vowed to intensify efforts to free students still held hostage in Niger State.

He urged the National Assembly to consider legalising state police, advising states, religious institutions, and local authorities to strengthen security measures.

Tinubu also highlighted the newly created Livestock Ministry, calling on herders to end open grazing, surrender illegal weapons, and adopt ranching to end farmer–herder clashes.

“We are in this fight together, and together we shall win,” he said.
