VP Shettima Visits Kebbi After Schoolgirls’ Abduction, Conveys Tinubu’s Message
Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kebbi State following the abduction of students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area. His aircraft landed at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Shettima, who was sent on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, is expected to meet state officials, visit families of the abducted girls, and receive a comprehensive briefing on the situation. He was accompanied by the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, and other government officials.
The tragic attack, which occurred during a bandit invasion, claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who died while attempting to stop the gunmen from taking the students.
Security agencies have since deployed a joint tactical team to search surrounding forests and intensify rescue operations.
President Tinubu has condemned the attack and expressed sympathy to the families affected. The incident led to the postponement of his scheduled trips to South Africa and Angola for the G20 and AU-EU summits, as he prioritizes the national security situation.
