There was no justification for a military officer to confront him that way, he must face court-martial over clash with Wike – Asari Dokubo

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has criticised the clash between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and some military officers over a disputed plot of land in Abuja.

The altercation reportedly started when a senior Naval officer, allegedly acting on the orders of former Chief of Naval Staff Auwal Gambo, blocked Wike and FCT officials from accessing the site, leading to a heated confrontation.

In a video shared on Facebook, Dokubo condemned the officer’s actions as unprofessional and urged that he be disciplined and court-martialled.

He said: “I’m not taking sides with Wike; I’m taking sides with the law. What happened was completely out of order. In any sane society, that officer would have been reprimanded and detained immediately.

“The Minister of the FCT is like the governor of Abuja and constitutionally the chief security officer of the city, second only to the President. There was no justification for a military officer to confront him that way.”

Asari added that the law applies to everyone, including members of the armed forces.

“A military man is subject to the constitution; he’s not above it,” he said. “If Wike hadn’t gone there personally, people would say government officials don’t take their jobs seriously. I see nothing wrong in the Minister going to inspect the land himself.

“Nobody should tolerate such disrespect from someone who, by law, is supposed to recognize the Minister as his superior.”
