Governor Alex Otti Raises NYSC Allowance in Abia to ₦50,000 Monthly
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved a major increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, from ₦4,000 to as much as ₦50,000.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha, all corps members in Abia will now receive a base allowance of ₦20,000. Those serving in state government offices will earn an additional ₦10,000, while corps members in medical and teaching roles will receive an extra ₦30,000 monthly.
The increment, which complements the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance, is part of Otti’s broader plan to strengthen youth empowerment and fill workforce gaps in critical sectors. Ukoha noted that this is the first major review in 27 years, reflecting the governor’s commitment to improving welfare and public service delivery.
The statement also highlighted ongoing improvements at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Bende LGA, including infrastructure upgrades and power installations, despite the camp being federal property.
With this adjustment, Abia now joins the ranks of states offering the highest NYSC stipends in Nigeria, following similar welfare boosts recently announced in Adamawa State.
