Country of particular concern:”It’s nothing new. It doesn’t amount to Genocide” – Pastor Wale Adefarasin dismisses claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria
Lagos-based pastor, Wale Adefarasin of the Guiding Light Assembly, has refuted claims of an ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria, describing the narrative as exaggerated and politically driven.
Speaking during a Sunday service on November 2, Adefarasin acknowledged that attacks on Christians have occurred for decades but argued that they do not amount to genocide. He expressed skepticism over what he called the West’s “sudden love” for Nigerian Christians.
“In over forty years of being a Christian, there have been killings in Southern Kaduna and on the Plateau. These are not new,” he said. “The way the West is talking, it’s as if a Christian steps out and gets shot on sight.”
The pastor further questioned the motives behind the renewed Western attention, hinting that it might be tied to Nigeria’s growing economic independence. “Is this sudden concern because we now have one of the largest refineries in the world or because of the 21st-century minerals discovered on our soil?” he asked.
Adefarasin urged Nigerians to stay vigilant and discerning, cautioning against foreign interests disguised as humanitarian concern.
